I sold my D7000 because it was too heavy for my old hands and I bought the Canon SX50.Make no mistake this is a great camera but to be honest I miss a DSLR but there is still the weight problem so I am thinking of getting the Nikon D3300 which is lighter than the SX50.The reviews of this camera are excellent .I wonder if anyone has one and would give me their opinion?

Reading your post I'd check the Canon SL-1, supposed to be the smallest and lightest DSLR, at least for now, Bob.

I'd also consider the D5200/D5300, also light with a few more features than the D3200/D3300. Thee are good deals out there right now on bundles at the big box stores. I've got a little Canon SX-510 for a backup, but will grab the DSLR every chance I get...

Might want to look into getting a Harness, then you can carry both those bad boys.

You might want to hold off a bit until Canon comes out with an upgrade to the SX50 called the SX520. It should hit the streets in a couple months.

The D3100-3200-3300 are small DSLR's but as Bob mentioned, the Canon SL-1 is the smallest on the market.

I have seen the information on the SX520 and it is not what I was hoping for. I had hoped they would come out with something with maybe 20mp and 50X. Is the SX520 to replace the SX50 or are they going to come out with another upgrade to replace the SX50?

The Rumer mill has it that it's only going to be wider angle lens at the bottom end. No increase in Mp or Zoom

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Canon Marketing waited for the SX50 to come out, then had at least a full day of brainstorming for the designation of the SX50's successor. At the end of the day, they have a whiteboard covered with thousands of potential designations. Then they start checking American (or international forums with lots of American members). The first time a guess is made for the successor's designation, it gets a check mark; the second time it is erased. "Ain't no way the Yanks are going to get this one!" By the time the successor is ready for Marketing Department involvement, they're ate a half dozen names left. Then they stand back and shoot rubber arrows at the board (remember, the Japanese are historically excellent archers). And that is how the successor for the SX50 is named. So don't be surprised if the next model comes out only in pink and is named the Canon SX cherry Blossom (oops, did I just put a check mark beside my choice? Don't anyone say it again!)

Laugh if you want, but it makes just as much sense as lots of other naming sequences!

I would wait for the new camera coming out at the Photo convention in the next few weeks. Rumors of lighter weight camera snare on the way. Good Luck

Bet the D3300 would NOT be lighter than the SX50 once you put a 24mm-1200mm lens on it!!! Or most any zoom lens.

Hello Viscount Driver,
I have an Olympus EPL-5 which similar to DSLR but without mirror.
It is very light (20 oz) complete with lens and battery and takes excellent images with the kit lens.
It is currently on sale for around £300, if you have a Currys/PCWorld near go and have a look.
Don't buy from them though their price is too high!!
Cheers, John.

I would suggest the Sony RX100III for your old hands. No, you won't get the reach of the SX50, and No, you won't have interchangeable (heavy) lenses, but you will have a jewel of a camera with a 20mp sensor that produces great images with its Zeiss lens, and feel like a feather around your neck. I too have old (arthritic) hands, and have both the D7000 and the Sony RX100, and use both- I wouldn't give up the Nikon, personally- because its a great camera, and I'm glad I have the RX100 for my "old" hands -I take more photos that way!
Good luck in your pursuit, and like some of the Hogs have said, wait for the photo show new stuff ya never know what's around the corner...
