I'm in Lightroom3 and I can't get out! I have finished with my picture and I don't know what to do next. I want to put it back in my picture files in another program.

Export the image to the folder you want to save your image in. Lightroom does NOT have a Save As option. You must choose Export from the Library mode... choose the correct folder and export the image to that folder.

You don't say which lightroom you have but if it is 3.3 or 3.6 it DOES have a
DONE button no matter what anyone tells you. In the DEvelop module after you have finished Cropping your picture there will be a button below it and directly to the right that says Done. You need to hit that button to finish and save your crop.
The other editing changes as you go and does not need to be saved as the program does it automatically for you.
If you do not see the Done button press "T" and that will toggle it on. Then click it.
You can continue editing your pic at that point if you wish. If you do not crop this is not necessary.
Then click on the Library module at the top. If LIbrary does not show there is a small triangle dead center at the top of the screen to click and show the different modules. If you do not see it it is still there! just click there anyway.
Once in Library you may or may not see an Export button. If you do you can use it and if not got to File>Export... and a window will pop up.
There you can Export to a Specific folder or let LR choose one for you. Finish filling in the instructions for any more changes to the pic and hit the Export button at the bottom.
You are now done.
A useful tool is the Keyboard Shortcuts chart available through searching for it in Help at the top. So much of Lightroom toggles on and off that it can be pretty confusing,

At least you have the light on.... You could be in a darkroom. Then you would have good reason to not be able to find the way out.

As some have said...LR is a bit different than a lot of apps in that the edits are nondestructive; they are just information ABOUT your file...your file is untouched even though it looks like something happened to it when you edited it.

The export function is akin to "save as" in other programs, and it allows you to save a "snapshot" of that original file with your edits for display, or use in another program or whatever.

You'll get used to it. :)

To get out type Ctrl Q. The changes you made are to the code stored in LR and not to the pixel file you originaly down loaded. I found Laura Shoe, has a great tutorial on LR that willhelp you escape.

When I am done editing, I go to EDIT, SELECT ALL, then go to FILE, EXPORT, and when the box pops up, choose a folder. Good luck.

But between "export" and "good luck" there are a LOT of decisions to be made. :)

Understand the checkboxes in the export dialogue also.

YES!! I don't understand them and do I have to check each one? I have the book on LR3, and I don't understand that section, either.
