In the Consumer Reports I just received. They did another study of cameras. This time, the best scoring camera ever is the Canon PowerShot G1X Mark II. Interesting article, they score most of the point and shoots.

The 'scores' are for 'popular' cameras and do not take in consideration many factors that 'true' *coughing* 'photographers' *coughing* are looking at.

Consumer Reports has problems. I read one in which they lowered a score on the BMW M3 because the ride was a bit stiff - precisely the way it it SUPPOSED TO BE in a spots car. I really do not think they understand lots of stuff they write about.

For sure I would not trust their evaluation of cameras.

Confusion, indeed. ConsumerReports doesn't take paid advertising.

"Attempting humor or being an asshole" are not the only options. You are incorrect.

From their masthead--"We don't accept paid advertising." For some one who hasn't seen the magazine for 24 years and is dead, flat, demonstrably wrong, you have a lot of chutzpah to be calling someone an asshole.

I find it interesting that according to:

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/search.htm?&pageType=withDimension&viewType=refinedPage&Ntpc=1&Ntpr=1&Ntx=mode%20matchall&Ntk=Models&Ne=8063&Nr=AND(RecordType:CRO)&N=4294953176+4294960465&Ntt=Point%20and%20Shoot%20Cameras

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II was listed under "Digital SLR camera Ratings" Apparently CR has some problems with categorization.

Similar issues come up regardingCR rating of other products that have an "enthusiast" rating. The best way to wrap ones head around this is to realize their rating are directed to to non-enthusiast consumer.

Although Consumer Reports has some value, it should not be followed blindly. Would you buy a new suit because Consumer Reports said that it fit most people better than the other suits?

Maybe and maybe not.

CR seems to do a nice job on small and large appliances and their reliability ratings on used cars are spot on as are their safety tests on new vehicles. I have used CR ratings on many purchases including cars and with one exception I was very pleased. My Mercedes was a piece of overpriced crap.
