Like many of us patient Hogs I placed an order for the elusive Tammy 150-600 Canon with B&H about a month ago knowing well that it would be several months before I would get it. So here I am in Lexington, KY visiting my daughter and I drive by a place called Murphy's Cameras. When I got back to the house I figured I would call them and so I did. I started my conversation with, "Hi, my name is Mike and I would like to ask you a question that I probably already know the answer to (NO!). You wouldn't by chance have a Tamron 150-600 in stock would you?" The reply .... yes we do. Would you like Canon or Nikon mount. We have both in stock. After a brief period of silence (during which I performed CPR on my almost lifeless body) I replied Canon. The response was we have a couple. The next words out of my mouth was sold, what time do you close. Within 2 hours I was the proud owner of the elusive Tamron. The salesman I dealt with was great. I only wish I had a place like this where I live. He said they get both mounts in every couple of weeks and they go out pretty fast. The lesson to be learned from this is check the small local places (not that the store was that small - they had a great inventory). You never know what treasure you might find.

We have Murphy's here in Louisville too. They actually handle Fuji also.

Congrats also. I had orders in at B&H and Adorama but called a shop in Raleigh, NC and they had a Nikon in stock. 2 months waiting for B&H and Adorama and 5 minutes to buy it in Raleigh. The little guys are getting them.

Mike, what drama!
Your story starts out like a 12 step program.

I commend you for keeping your cool under such extreme pressure. How many of us under that kind of duress would have just blurted out NIKON, even though we have never even owned one!

I know what you mean, I found my wife in a store like that.
There she was, very bottom shelf, way in the back and all covered in dust!!

Mike, congrats on your new lens!

Wow! I would never have believed it possible to get such a sharp picture at full telephoto. I had one of old 28-300 Tamrons back in 2005, and liked it enough so that when it broke when security dropped it checking for bombs at the Andrews Air Force Base Air Show I bought a new one, but the 300mm was very soft, never really got a good pic with it. As I became more advanced in my photography I finally decided to try Nikon lenses on my next new camera, a Nikon instead of Canon, and have become a happy camper. I still have avoided the long range telephoto, settling for 200mm, but it really isn't much but gets sharp pictures. I am glad to see Tamron has improved too over the years, but I don't know if I will ever be able to afford one of those super telephotos.

makes you wonder why such big volume opertions like B&H or Adorama can't get more from Tamron

I guess they try to keep everyone happy. If they supplied to only the big sellers, they would lose all the little people.

I think people just rush to the big guys thinking they get lots...and they probably do....but LOTS of people order there too. I walked into my local store and they had one....and that was back in the beginning of the year. :-)
