Any comments on the condition scales of these two companies? Anyone used both to comment on the dependability? value?

I buy "New & Used" from adorama and never had a problem.
The Used ratings were very accurate and the pricing very reasonable. I also buy new from BH Photo with no problems.

I did visit the KEH site to research my current needs but made no purchase. The site seems to have more "bargains" such as "Ugly but Working".

It boils down to personal preference and past experience for me.

I've purchased from both and haven't been disappointed. With two of the items I bought from KEH, they were actually in better condition than advertised. Shipping times were about the same from both places. Adorama has great customer service as does KEH. I don't think you can go wrong with either place.

i have bought from both, but prefer KEH for their 6 month warranty as well as in house repair center. EVERYTHING i bought from them both camera bodies and lenses and a vertical grip came in much BETTER shape than they rated. Adaroma has good customer service as well. Any minute a post from Helen Oster from Adorama will apear. she has a 6th sense of knowing when adorama is being discussed. Its actually kinda spooky!!!! KEH prices are better but they wont haggle, Helen says adorama will haggle. I have a nikon md-100 vertical grip and battery holder rated ugly for a small scatch on the corner of it that I paid $1.79 for. not a typo my d-100 rated as in bgn condition four 4 scratches around the back and having a sticky back due to previous owner had camera asrmor on it.. paid 166 for the camera used goo gone on the back, problem solved. camera in excellant condition.. would have had to pay adorama about 225-250 for same.

Thanks to all. I've purchased new from Adorama (& B&H)--- but never from KEH. I've heard that they don't over-rate on the conditions of their used gear. I'm looking at buying a used medium format to "get back to my roots"....

give em a try, and do not be afraid to take a chance on bgn or ug rated products. since they have an inhouse repair center, everything i have gotten from them comes in clean condition. contacts shiny, glass clean looks practicaly new.

So do they generally go through the camera/lens prior to the sale?

Adorama gives a 6-month warranty on bodies & lenses rated D, V, E+, E and E- minus, which includes a 30-day no-questions-asked returns period.

All items should be checked over thoroughly before sending out - but if there's anything you're not happy with, we'll simply take it back!

BTW You can request actuation counts (subject to software availability) as well as actual pictures of units before you commit to buy; either via our customer service department or directly to me: Helen@adorama.com

I'll chime in as well for KEH. I've been very happy with both of my cameras (D70 and this past December D7000) but you do want to read the details. I got my D7000 and it didn't include a battery or charger. MY BAD! I didn't read the details. Thankfully the local camera store had both. Still was a great deal!

actually she goes above and beyond in excellant customer service!!! She pops up often on popphoto.com, and if adorama ever sells rototillers youll find her on homeandgarden.com . one of the reasons i like adorama and do recomend them for new product is their exceptional level of service. You can trust them like you can't trust any of the low price bait and switch sites.

I've had good success with them as well. I'm looking at getting a used film camera from them, if I can convince my "personal banker."
