I recently installed a USB3 PCI card. i hooked it up to a multi-card reader mounted in my computer tower. I bought both pieces for just under $40. That was money well spent. USB3 is way faster than USB2. I was blown away. The multi-card reader is nice too. I don't have to use the safely remove hardware setting to pull the card out as long as I remember to close out the window of the card reader. I highly recommend this for desktop PC users.
Even my slow memory cards work a lot faster. Now I can also easily read and remove my CF and SD cards.
If I want I, can do the same for my Mac Book Pro by getting a firewire card reader since I don't have the newer Thunderbolt.
