Battery Life.

I have been using a T/C attached to a 100-400L on a Rebel XS, taking moon shots. I noticed that on two occasions the battery on the XS died without any notice. Could the T/C cause the battery to discharge unexpectably?
Thanks for your comments.

Since it's not electrical, probably not. Regardless what load you have on the battery, there should be a steady decline, maybe going faster toward the end.

There are the obvious considerations, like the age of the batteries, ambient shooting temperature, and how well they were charged.

Jerry is right on the money, it should be fairly consistent discharge. The last 1/4 charge or so may go somewhat quicker.

Do you use live view for your moon photography? The lcd monitor eats up a lot of power.

The batteries are about 3 yrs. Old and it was a cool summers night. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The Rebel XS does not have live view.I use the Rebel because it's the only camera that the auto focus works with the Kenko 1.4 tc.Maybe it's the age of the batteries. I'll just keep an eye on it.

On your moon shots, are you using flash?

He is only using flash on those nights when there is a New moon. The flash is a Giganzo. It has a Guide # 654367890. It eats up batteries however.

And a flash would have its own batteries.

The Giganzo Mk II is even more powerful. You need an FAA permit to use it outdoors. I got the optional solar powerpack, but it doesn't seem to provide much power. :D

If you'd had paid a few K more, you could have got the nuclear power pack.

I don't know if that would be practical.

You need an FAA permit to use it. We should send a few to the Ukraine. That would show Putin the light.
