The full sun is in this photo and there are sharp objects to focus on, that the camera can grab.
I see no focus problems in this photo.
Another option could be - it doesn't matter if the foreground is out of focus, it will be black anyway, just manually focus 50ft in and turn it to F/11 or F/22 for example, you will be in focus hyperfocally.
