What were you shooting when it stopped working? When I'm shooting sports with the continuous shooting mode turned on the buffer will fill up and the camera will stop working. Just have to sit it aside and let it process, it will eventually come back to life.

I have the EFS 18-135mm lens and I really like it, but it has a problem with off camera flash. When I put the flash on the camera with the 18-135 lens the TTL works fine, but if I put the flash off camera with a Pocket Wizard it will overexpose. Put another lens on the camera and the TTL works fine off camera. What lens are you using?

Which error did it show? They have individual codes which mean different things.
So you can simply google Canon 7D error 30 (for instance) and learn about it.

I think it was error 30 and recommended. Taking out battery and putting back in, that works, just waiting don't work, lens does not matter. I have the 24-105 and really like that. The camera does the shut down every 6 months or so.

I'm just guessing here, but it sounds like some kind of battery problem. Either the battery is reaching end of life ot there is some kind of battery contact problem either the battery contacts are worn or dirty or the camera contacts are the problem. Try gently cleaning the battery and camers contacts with a cotton swab. You might want to call canon and speak with a tech. Wait a minuite. I have the perfect answer. As the camera is obviously beyond repair, this is a perfect opportunity to order the 7D mk11.

Make sure your battery is good and then update the firmware. Similar problem with my 5Dmiii and that solved it. Merritt

The 7D is infamous for the internal screws coming loose and traveling around inside the camera. These can become lodged in the mechanical mechanism and produce an intermittent error like you describe. They can also come to rest on a circuit board and cause a short in the electronics that can become very expensive to repair.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the camera for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

Just guessing but what brand is the battery in question, Canon or some knock-off? More information is needed from you before anyone could figure out what you are experiencing. How old is the camera, the battery, the problem? To find the solution, you must first address the problem.

Oh yeah. Did you get an error number or message on the LCD? I got error 99.

We're you using live view?
LV will overheat the sensor and go into auto shut-off. ;-)
