Thank you all for your recent discussions on FastStone and external 3rd party editors. I like the full screen preview and sidebar tools FastStone provides (especially their 'straighten' tool feature).
Question: has anyone had success to using Tags or Keywords in editors like Picasa, FastStone, PSE 12, Zoner Studio (tools I use for editing features I have come comfortable with) and were able to search those tags in any of these editors?
I am trying to learn how to leverage 'tagging' or any feature that can be read and queried in multiple editors and thereby reduce the need to develop an elongated folder/file structure under My Pictures. I am aware that some of the editors have their own 'tagging/keyword' system - but hoping there is experience among the members that had success across multiple editors.
Thank you, Bob

Thanks, I will have to run some samples using this and the tag/keyword options in the editors referenced and then attempt a search for tag/keyword within each tool.
Worse case: see which editor has the 'best' tag/keyword feature and add that step to my post processing steps.

OK, let us know what happens, maybe you have a system many of us can use.
It seems to me that your key words are part of the exif data and should be able to be read by any viewer/editor?

I use Picasa, FastStone, Paintnet and PSE 11. I find the easiest way to tag and search tags is with Windows Photo Gallery. After locating a photo you can choose which editor you would like to open it with. I still have an "elongated folder/file structure" and don't understand why you would object to it.

I tested FastStone - it appears 'tagging' to them is simply a flag (red square dot) with no ability to define a tag keyword. My journey continues. Also, I could not find a universal 'search all'.

Tagging is not FastStone Image Viewer's strength, quick viewing and comparing is. The tag is lost even when moving a picture from one folder to another from within FSIV.
