Thinking about upgrading to 70D

I have a T2i with the 18-55 kit lens. Since then I have added an EFS 10-22mm wide angle and a Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 zoom. Any issues using these lenses with a 70D?

None at all, they will work just fine on the 70D, just don't try to mount them on a 5D, 6D, or 1D body

The 70D will take any EF lens made by Canon and any competitive lens with an EF mount. The EFS designation is actually EF-S, indicating that it is an EF mount with the S (which I think stands for short) indicating that it will only work on crop sensor Canons, such as the T2i and 70D.
I went from the T3i to the 70D and not long afterwards sold that and got a 6D. The 70D is a fine camera, but if you are even thinking about going to full frame at some point, now would be the time to give it some serious thought. I could have saved time and money by skipping the 70D and going straight to the 6D. Your EF-S lenses will not work on a full frame Canon though. I sold mine right here on the Hog.

I thought the EF-S lenses would work on a 7D?

Apparently that is a typo on the part of MTShooter. The 7D will definitely accept EF-S lenses, as well as EF lenses also.

Yes, it was a typo that I corrected when I re-read the post, sorry.

I have the 70D and also the Tamron 18-270. There have been occassional problems shooting video with the Tamron lens. I rarely shoot video but when I do I want it to work.

After shooting several short (30 to 60 seconds) vids in a row the camera would stop shooting and give an error message. I returned the lens to Tamron since it was still under warranty and they completely cleaned and refurbished it at no charge. It has worked well since then with the previous problem occuring every so often but not nearly as frequently as before.

I have read that becuz the Tammy is reverse engineered to work on a Canon there are occassional firmware glithches causing anomalies like this. If you plan to shoot a lot of video-----which the camera is subperb at---then I would consider another lens.

Try it and if you have problems with the Tammy, sell it and buy a Sigma which has a similar lens. My daughter has the Sigma and it is a little smaller and not quite as much magnification, but I like the Tammy much better. You might be able to find some other posts on here about the same lens problem that I described wtih the 70D, that might have more recent information.

The 70D is a great camera overall. The video is fabulous with speedy, accurate focusing. I thought the articulating screen and touch screen feature were gimmicks but they really do come in handy when you need them. I think those two features will eventually appear on most cameras.

Thanks for the info fantom. I'll let you know if I experience the same problem with my Tamron lens.
