After a 3 decade hiatus I got back into photography last month with a Nikon D7100 and 2 kit lenses plus a Tamron 150-600 on order. My emphasis will be wildlife -especially birds. The digital world is a bit intimidating but I've already learned a lot from you Hogs over the last few weeks. I intend to learn much more from UHH in the future.

Where are you hanging your hat at these days?
That Tamron on a D7100 should be a lot of fun! I'm using it on a couple of FF Nikon bodies, and it's very interesting. Mostly because it fits very nicely into the "camera bag" I use, that fits into a double wide milk crate that is lashed to the front rack on a 4-wheeler. It is just long enough in focal length to get shots that a 400mm lens won't get, and just short enough physically to be comfortable to take along and whip out when needed.
Welcome to the HOG - Enjoy.
Welcome to the Hog, being retired in Alaska should give to time to learn and you certainly will have lots of great subjects to photograph. ;)
AK, welcome, I am a new member as well. I can honestly say i thoroughly enjoy my association with UHH. I know you will as well.
I'm in Anchor Town. Envy your Snowy Owl shot!

In about a month, when all the young birds are out of the nest and wandering around a bit confused by everything, they'll be easy to photograph! More nesting pairs around Barrow this year than we've had for several years, so it should be productive.
Hop on a plane and come up for a week! I've got an extra 4-wheeler, and always need another person to really go anywhere. You're certain to have fun, but then probably won't be able to afford Christmas...
My Tamron won't be in for another 2 months at least.

Ouch. The sun goes down before then!
I bought mine from Stewart's Photo on 4th Ave. It was shipped the day Tamron released the Nikon version. If you've ordered one from somewhere else it might be worth dropping by, or making a phone call, to ask. Stewart's has always been fun to deal with.
Greetings akretiree, and welcome to the UHH!
Welcome to UHH akretiree, glad you joined us. Shoot the Nikon D7100 myself, great camera. Don't have the Big Tam but I have the Sigma 150-500mm that I like quite well. Post some of your images when you have time. Have fun and enjoy the forum.
