......reformat my card? And how often? I've only done it a couple of times. And never seen to have a problem. Some people I know never do. But someone said I have to reformat. So just wondering. Is it really important?

After downloading your pictures to your computer, reformat your card in the camera after your sure that all pictures have been copied to your computer or external hard drive.

Once I have downloaded all the images to my computer and am satisfied they've all been transfered I reformat the card. It assures me any left over junk has been eliminated. I don't really know how necessary it is but that's just what I do.

Thanks. I once reformatted and something got screwed and I lost about 200 pics on vacation. So I've not reformatted again. I was told it's wrong to leave one pic on it at all times too. I dunno....is it?

You reformat AFTER you are sure that the pictures have been copied to your computer. Then you reformat your card IN THE CAMERA.

Why would you want to leave one pic on at all times? When you reformat everything will be gone.

You can leave pics on a card as long as you want, it doesn't damage anything. formatting just prevents "ghosting" from previous images. When you format, make sure there's no pics on there you want to save.

I was told never to delete pics with the computer. Use the camera. The computer can screw things up.

To remember how badly screwed up some shots were, so you won't and maybe, if you've been good, one of the nice shots to calm your nerves now and then...so you will...

I leave one pic on so I don't have to reformat. But after this topic I think I will delete all and reformat.

I do not reformat. I fill the card and save it as a backup to my computer and external hard drive. The cost of an SD cardwith hundreds of photos on it, is about the price of one roll of developed prints. Anyone know of a reason not to save the cards? I do delete the images that I dont like and keep shooting till the card is full of stuff I do like.

Sometimes I do, other times I don't.
