Trying to make a 5 X 7 print out of this photo

I was recently approached by a good friend who asked if I would be able to make a usable print out of an image she had taken with her cellphone. When she presented me with the image, attached, I found it was only 3 kb in size to begin with. I have tried increasing the file size by 10% at a time and used PSE 10 and Genuine Fractals but can't bring it up to a printable image. I know of no other ways to approach this and thought I'd check with the group for any ideas. The focus is very "soft" to begin with.

That little image does look like it could be a challenge to get anything useful out of it. But worth a shot for sure!
I've used onOne Perfect Resize and had good results with it. onOne provides a free 30-day trial of their products ... you might want to check it out:

good luck!

Good luck, but it looks like you're trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, and have no dirt to work with.

I once expanded a picter to beyond what it should be by putting on a PS filter of oil paint. The enlarged photo was not bad.

You have a battle with this one. You might have better luck printing the picture small as is as nice as you can get it, then scanning it with a good high resolution scanner at it's highest settings if you have one available, then use the scanned image to enlarge. If you're real lucky, you might get it to look good at 5 x 7

I really don't know if this could actually work, but if you have a good lens that you use for closeup/macro work you might try to take a "picture of the picture" on her cellphone with your camera and see how that looks ... could be an interesting experiment.

When enlarging a photo you are also enlarging the flaws. If someone out there has a way of doing it I would like to know also.

I believe that Perfect Resize is the new name for Geunine Fractals.
