What's wrong with using the best parts to build a camera or anything else? Harley's put Bosch magnetos on their motorcycles way back in the 1910's. I would rather purchase any major item built with the best parts, rather than something quickly thrown together to make a quick buck. I'm not ashamed to be seen shooting with my Canon, Nikon, or Fuji cameras. After all, it's the image, the end result that matters. That image being the best I can take without manipulating it on a computer. I would rather think that the images posted in magazines, billboards, family albums is what gives a camera and a company a reputation. Shoot On.

As a watch collector I couldn't help but notice you watermark. Wish I could afford a Breguet Tourbillion. But the 2 or 3 hundred grand is way out of my league.
Yup, can't beat those Nikon optics! In the late '30's and early '40's, while Canon was still trying to build it's camera business Nikon was already churning out an endless stream of excellent bomb sites, periscopes and naval range finders! With all that experience no wonder Canon chose their lenses for their early cameras. :)

I have 4 lenses for my AE 1. The 50 mm says Canon but the other 3 from macro to telephoto zoom with auto focus were made by TOYO OPTICS. As I recall ( and its been a longgggggggg time) they all worked really well.

In the beginning there was a pinhole...
That's history. Today's times are much different and productions values have changed. It is up to your own likes and experiences. I have owned many Nikons and have drawers filled with bodies and lenses both film and digital. I now use Canon.
I've had one of each Nikon and Canon rangefinder cameras in the late 1950s and also an Asahiflex when those first came out. But I don't remember which lens was which (except for the Asahi.)

Goes to show that with experience Canon just grows, keeps getting better and leaves early mistakes in the past.

Actually (if you had read the article you linked to) it is a foot in the door. In business it is a variation on a loss leader. It allows industry to buy into the better system (Canon) without replacing their current lenses at the start. As Canon dominates takes this market over time, there will be a shift in available mounts.

Actually, I did read the article. Pay attention to Canons reasoning. They cannot sell lenses in this market as it is totally dominated by Nikon, they just want to try to grab a little piece of it.,
Yes you are right Nikkor was only optical company if memory serves me right I believe it was sometime later in history that Nikon came about.

Don't argue with MT. He knows more than you will ever know dsmeltz.
