I accidently deleted photos on my memory card and was wondering if there is any way to recover them? I have not used the card and was hoping there was a way to get them back? They were really good shots!!!

Recover with Recuva - for free.

It can be a slow process. I've used this software and it does work. This was as a preemptive test, just in case. I took 4 photos, downloaded them, then erased them. Recuva worked for several hours to "restore" the files. I downloaded them again and compared them to the original downloads and they were identical.

The erase procedure simply, software/OS dependent, replaces the first character of the file name with a '?'. The OS doesn't "see" this and thinks the file doesn't exist. This allows for the file to be over written when a new Save command is issued.

If the first character is replaced, which Recuva does" with a recognizable character, the OS will see the file there.

Thanks for the info....Recuva was able to recover most of the photos. It didn't get them all but it got the last few which are the ones I was hoping for!

Wow! That's slow. I did a similar test a long time ago, and I don't remember a long wait. I'll have to try again. Better to wait a long time and get them back than not get them at all.

I did this test about 4 years ago. That's when I got my digital with an SD card. They may have improved it. Fortunately, I've not had to use the software since that test.

I have Photo Rescue (free download) installed and I've used it once with some success. Might be worth a try.

MR! All hard memory cards should be considered volatile, they go bad after awhile and are subject to magnetic fields, damage, water. etc., etc.

900 pics! I assume more then one days shooting, but I guess it could be a busy day! You should get into the habit of downloading and backing up and never storing them on the card for long periods or you are asking for trouble.

Also, it is suggested you reformat the card after you confirm download. This will avoid any bad sectors etc. Vary happy that you were able to recover them, not using the card was KEY!~
