Deal Dash Auctions: Do they work?
I see people saying they won an auction ...A Nikon lens for something like $7.98....Could that be true?

Anyone have any experience with these auctions?

If it sounds too good to be true, then it isn't true. There is always some type of gotcha trick.

I think it's an auction that charges money for every bid placed. Not much, but when the say...A Nikon lens for something like $7.98... they are not saying how much extra they paid for the bidding charges. If only one bid was placed and they won the bid, then they get a good deal. Let us know what you find out.

What’s the catch?

1. Bidders purchase Bids for 60¢ each in packs of 100 and other sizes.
2. DealDash uses the sales generated by selling Bids to fund the highly discounted auction prices.

But nothing new, been going on for years. Good deal for the eventual winner. Bad news for everyone else.

(Bear with me here, cause I'm making up numbers now.)
Say they start a $200 Nikon lens at 1 cent. You want it so you pay 60 cents to bid. So do 500 other people. Then you bid again at 2 dollars (and so do 300 other people), each of you paying 60 cents again. You bid again at 4 dollars and 100 other people do, again paying 60 cents each. You finally bid 6 dollars and lose, along with fifty other people who also paid their 60 cents to bid.

Do the math. They've just sold a $200 lens for over 1400 dollars.

With that in mind, you may have gotten a good deal but they have gotten one hell of a lot better one.

I have lots of experience with DD. It is the best auction site around that I know of but...and here's the rub...it's very addicting. I've won lamps, porch furniture, pans, a vacuum cleaner (remote), a Blu-ray player, a blender, a steamer, multiple bid packs, a camera (sm point and shoot), an air multiplier (Dyson fan with no blades), a humidifier, 4 folding chairs, pictures, a room air cleaner, multiple packs of batteries, etc.

I've also spent thousands of $$ for bids. They advertise the bids at being $.60 but they almost never are. Most of last year they were much lower but they've raised their bids. Most of the time, the cheapest you can buy them for is $.16 a bid. When someone gets an iPad for $7.49 or something like that, it's usually been bid on during low traffic.

It all comes down to gambling, if you like it, you will become addicted, if not, you'll pass. I could have bought all those things I won (many not listed) many times over if I would have applied the money directly to a store. I loved the heat of the battle.

If you join, you can find many great deals, you can buy the item at list and receive free shipping. I got so that I bought batteries at something like $19 a pack and would end up getting a deal. Go into it using your head not your heart. If you join, best of luck, just know when to stop. :)

Thank you all for baring your souls. I had a suspicion Deal Dash was not about saving people money. It is about big profits and like a Las Vegas gambling Casino....the house will come out on top.

I can see where it could become a problem if you do not know when to leave the table ( the computer). It kind of felt like it was too good to be true.

I love photography but do not have the funds for a telephoto and macro lens at this time, so I will make due with my Nikon D5100.

I agree with this evaluation of all of these bidding websites. And there's no way of telling if they actually sell the item to the highest bidder either.
I have always considered these bidding war website where you buy a package of bids for "X" pennies per bid, to be a scam. And there's no way of telling if the item is "GRAY MARKET".

Viking, I've always found DD to be fair, they state the worth of the item and I check it online. They usually buy things from Best Buy and Sears. I know this because that's where the packages come from, DD doesn't send any out. You can also earn bids, the more time you spend bidding for things, the more bids you earn. It isn't gray market, they are totally above board but...they are betting you can't quit and you're betting you can. They win out in the long run.
