Anyone know of nice areas for landscape, nature or waterfall shots in Long Island, New York city or Catskills vicinity. Thanks.

Now you're putting me on the spot because I live in the Catskills. Yes, we do have one or two scenic areas. New York City is responsible for one of them - the Ashokan Reservoir, off Route 28. There's the Hudson River, with a tour boat giving three-hour rides in the spring and summer, various mansions - Vanderbilt, Roosevelt, etc., Woodstock, Kingston (first state capital), Hunter and Belair Mts (ski resorts), Opus 40 in Saugerties, lots of little streams everywhere.
Rhinebeck, Red Hook, and Hudson are picturesque villages. There is Overlook Mt in Woodstock with the ruins of a resort hotel at the top. You don't climb this mt, you just walk along a dirt road.

If conditions are just right, the Catskills in the fall can be outstanding - or just so-so.

You might nee to be more specific, you include a huge area, Staten Island, part of NYC has the greenbelt, miles of trails, lots of sea shore, Central Park in Manhattan, the whole Hudson Valley, I shoot a lot off Rt 209 between Kingston and Ellenville, Thee is Rt 28 heading west from Kingston, on the east side of the Hudson are rts 9 and 9G, more great material just for starters, Bob.
Pardon the typos, first cup of joe, VBG, Bob.

Great photos. But I stayed at Mohonk Mountain Resort some years ago for a business seminar. I think the place is haunted ;)

Definitely haunted, but that's part of its charm. There are great trails and climbing opportunities - lots of great views for photography. There's even a large boating lake.
I use to drive the old route 17 from Elmira down to the Thruway across the Tapenzee to Conn. That is some of the best seenery in the east
The drive from Catskill up past Hunter Mt. is very pretty, Katterskill Falls (sp?), also, take a walk through the Sleepy Hollow cemetery for some interesting shots.
Roscoe NY has some wonderful picturesque sites such as this.

There is so much in long island alone. With Agraculture on the island and estuaries. Along urban lifestyle. I'm sure you will have plenty photo ops there alone. In the Catskills its different stuff but beautiful All the same. NY is very diverse and Beautiful. I live on the other end of the state. in more wine country.
