I think this is a cardinal also but wonder is he has the darker color because he is a juvenile ? I like 2nd shot best.

Could be. Maybe molting. Weve had some strange ones recently. The food they eat has a lot to do with their specific coloration.

This is definitely a young cardinal. We have a large group in our yard and see more of them than the adults at the moment.
probably a young male turning colors
Judging by the color of the beak I would say this is an adult that is molting. Immature Cardinals do not usually get their red-orange beaks until their first winter.
