I know you want to the data to show and I know I want it to show and I bet MOST people want it to show. I also know there are ways that it can be made to show, like on Flickr, but it doesn't show on this site.

Since most of us don't think to cut and paste the data for each photo, it winds up with pretty much none of the photos showing the information, though I'll bet the data is in 90% of the posted pictures. Any way that it can be gotten to display?

Just wondering, is all.

You bring up a very good point, but I don't know how we can get to that data on this site. Maybe someone else knows.

I'll see if I can find out. I have some developer/engineer friends. If they also know something about cameras ... maybe they can help. My Russian photog buddy Sergei may know. He could probably hack the CIA and they'd never know. Anyway, I'll ask him!

I understand Firefox has a plug-in that will show EXIF data, as does Chrome. Not sure about IE or Opera. Some watermarking programs can do it right on the image, as anyone who's seen my recent picture postings can attest. Unless there's some way to write it in to the forum software, which I've never seen, those options are probably the most viable.

Well, it is built into the website at Flickr. It's just code. Find out what the code is, add it, voila. I'm not a developer but I do have friends who are ... and believe me, this is not a big deal ... I just have to get the information for you and I will.

I use a utility, iExifer, on my Mac to view the data but I must right click save the file so I can open it in IExifer. The same applies on my Windows PC using iExif. Of course Lightroom & Photoshop's Bridge also shows EXIF. Unless someone uses "Save To Web" on their files the exif data should be viewable.

fivedawgz,

Anything you can dig up will be appreciated. Of course it wouldn't be hard for us to include some basic meta data, when we submit a picture.

By the way, does it really get so cold where you live that it takes 5 dogs to keep you warm?

Yes, but we keep the dogs warm :-)

Pretty sure I can get Serge to help and he would probably like the forum too. If he can't do it, it can't be done.

I'm looking into it. The forum software is not equipped to extract EXIF data from the pictures, but I might be able to make some changes.

I use FastStone Image viewer. Its a free download program with good metadata automatically available.

Download a free program from Opanda.com, then if the data hasn't been removed when you right click with your mouse if will show up.

I don't know that you need to extract it. For some reason, you are storing the image without the data. I use an EXIF plugin with firefox, and on other sites such as dpreview, I can right click and image, select EXIF data and and a dialog box pops up with the info from the image. When I do that to an image here, it states no EXIF data available, so it's not being stored in the image for extraction. Or at least in the image preview. I have not tried downloading and image and seeing if it's there.

This will help you. Like emails, the code reads the header info and then displays the exif info you want. However, there are some save choices that strip the exif data. "SAVE FOR THE WEB" is one I know for sure.

Php is usually the code these days, but it can also be coded in 'C'.

I know I am storing the data ... just need some way for it to get read by others. I can read it, no problem.

Hi M,

That article and the sites customized PHP code would have to be inserted in the site and when image is uploaded the info would be displayed with the picture.
