I have been experimenting with tonemapping.
Here are two versions of the same picture.
The picture was made with a Sinar F view camera using a Rodenstock 180mm lens on a compur 1 shutter. As a recorder I used a Canon 20d mouted on the Sinar.
So far I have made no judgements as to like or dislike.
I would be interested in your comments.

Looks very soft for a set up like yours... Some thing not quite right in attaching the 20D?
Given sharpness the color certainly would be better in the 2nd shot.

I agree that the focus is way off. It looks like you may have lost a bit of detail in the shadows, judging by the area to the right of the cactus and the top-tight corner.
I like the tones in the second one.
I am more interested on how you mount your digital camera to your view camera? I haven't done any research into what is available, and how well does it work. I would love to hear what you've found and how well it works for you.

I like the tone mapped one. I have used it in quite a few cases when I was unable to use HDR and am pleased with the results. You can probably do most of the same things in Photoshop, but tone mapping does it for you plus in the program that I use gives me about 20 different results.
# 1 looks more real but #2 makes a better picture.
like the coloring in #2, wish the focus was more clear...Tripod????
