Lincoln didn't respect the Constitution that much. As a matter of fact he trashed it so much that Supreme Court Justice Robert Tanny wrote a letter to Lincoln telling him how much he didn't know about the Constitution and it infuriated Lincoln so much that he signed an arrest warrent for the Justicies arrest.
