Ps3 Raw

I have Photoshop 3 Extended. My computer crashed and I had to start over and reload everything. Yes, I have a back up, but 32 bit Vista premium does not have full back up capabilites. I have reloaded Ps 3, but it will not read my RAW files. I keep getting the message, "Can not open file for it is not the correct document type." I have never had this problem before, any ideas anyone?

Probably time to get yourself up to date with computer, software applications and operating system.

I would check with Adobe that you have all of the updates to PS3.

Are you talking Photoshop CS-3 or all the way back to Photoshop 3.0?

If its really ps3 wow, that's old. I thought I was bad still using PS7.1 for some things. You can get the latest version of Photoshop Elements V12 for around $60 when it's on sale. That would be a pretty big upgrade for a low budget price. IMHO.

It's probably a very simple fix of downloading and installing the latest ACR, for your version of PS. The issue could be that your camera was not around when CS3 was implemented. Thus, ACR, as installed, is not up to date with the latest RAW formats.

Are these the same RAW files you used in Photoshop 3 Extended before your computer crashed?
If so, I'd think that PS3 installed with the ACR version it was shipped with, and that your camera needs a newer version than that.
Adobe does not have PS3 listed, so I don't know what version it shipped with, or what the latest version it is compatible with it.
Even if you have Photoshop CS3, it only supports ACR through version 4.6
If your camera was released after that version, then no, the program can't read your RAW files.

Just checked some of your other postings, you're using a Nikon D90? It needs ACR 4.6 or 5.1 minimum. I don't know why Adobe lists two versions of ACR for this camera, maybe 4.6 is for the first release of that camera, and 5.1 for a later one? In any case, if your camera needs version 5.1 of ACR, I'm afraid the time has come to upgrade your software.

The last version of ACR for CS3 was ACR 4.6

As you have reinstalled CS3, you would have "lost" ACR 4.6 and it needs to be installed. CS3 is no longer supported by Adobe, so it is unlikely you will get anywhere by the usual Help > updates.

There are apparently two fixes available, the first is to set your Windows clock back to a date that precedes October 1 2011, open PS and choose Help > update

Apparently this method (according to the Adobe Forum was working in 2012 - I cannot find any later references. If you are interested in this method the link for the info is http://forums.adobe.com/thread/915117

An extract from the forum is "So, what I've been doing for new deployments and prepping machines is installing CS3, setting the clock back to October 1, 2011 or earlier, running all updates, and setting the clock back to the current date. Make sure you remember to set your clock back to the current date, especially if you chose an earlier date like January 1, 2011, because the Acrobat updater won't run if the clock is set too far back."

The 2nd method is to download and install manually ACR 4.6, the link is: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4040

If you do this, be sure to read all the instructions.

It has to be CS3. PS7 was the first PS public edition to contain Camera Raw. PS3 came out in 1994.

Thanks, I set the clock back and was able to get the updates, 8 of them. Ps 3 is working as it should now.
