Land and Sea...
Hey Hogs! First off, as a "serious amateur", I want to thank you ALL for the great information I've learned on this site...it's my daily treat!
I'm headed to Maui in Sept. and have been researching underwater cameras in anticipation of shooting and videoing underwater. There will be a group of us so will also shoot typical day & night fun stuff. Of course, I'll be using my Nikon DSLR for scenic/landscape shots.
Main concerns are: image quality, low light capability, HD video with slow-mo feature, image stabilization and a modest budget not to exceed $300(hopefully)...spent all my money on DSLR equipment, airfare-room-food-you know the drill!
Your experience / knowledge is much appreciated!
Thank You!!

Consider GoPro, they can take stills as well as video, my son and his friends do alot of fishing and love theirs which they have mounted all over the boats they fish on. They also have used them spear fishing in the Bahamas and came back with wonderful stuff. Great for under water.

Welcome to our forum!
As for an underwater camera, I'd read reviews/comparisons of those cameras. I've used a Nikon AW100 which I bought refurbished. I know you've said you've been researching them, but research is better than personal opinion about one camera.
Basically, I think you'd be fine with any name-brand underwater camera.
I should have asked - will this be for scuba or snorkeling?

Yes, the GoPro Black edition is $400 and is water proof with it's included enclosure. Keep in mind, that when diving below 10 feet you won't have good light and the colors of the subject will be affected by water and light. They do make filters for correcting color and I'd suggest this is you go below 10 feet. There are color filters available for GoPro cameras just for this purpose.
Thanks all...I still have a little time to research/compare!
Jerry...snorkeling...never learned to scuba.
