DUH!... What's a woman to do?
I didn't do my homework and ordered the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D that everyone raves about. Trouble is that I only have a Nikon D5100 camera and it doesn't auto focus with this camera. It does on the D7100. Did someone say this on UHH? I'm sure they did. I just didn't pay attention. Can I use it anyway? I'm spoiled using AF and don't really want a prime lens that doesn't have it.
So, the bottom line is...
Now, I'm having an attack of GAS because I want a D7100 anyway. and this little "nifty fifty" will AF on the 7100. What's a woman to do?
I would have thought it was obvious: buy the 7100.
:-)

Well, thanks... I think I was just waiting for validation.

Personally I would ask for a return, save the money and make a new camera purchase when really ready, not under the gun from an initial error.
I hate to say it but buy the 7100, great camera and it will
serve you well for years to come. GAS isn't bad if you can
afford it.

They are soon to announce the D7200, according to rumors. If so, the D7100 will drop in price and become a real bargain. A camera that you will not soon outgrow!

I would return it and buy 50mm 1.8G. It'll work fine with your D5100.

Sure, you can go with the advice of the previous posters, and give in to your GAS-attack.
Or you can see it as a challenge, and learn to manually focus.
Because of issues with my eyes I don't use manual focus at all right now, but once surgery is behind me, I hope to get back to it. The little bit I learned about it, I liked!

Lassy, I hate to say this, but I agree.
Hastily buying a new camera to accommodate a hastily purchased $100 lens has got to be all the WRONG reasons.
Only you know your photography, the 7100 is a sports/action camera. Is that what you shoot?
Would you be better served with an entry level FF, or just stay where you are. What is coming out soon?
It's too easy for people to say they have a 7100 and it's the best thing since sliced bread, when in reality, it's the wrong camera for them as well.
Get it if YOU want it, not because you are being told to do so. I'm not trying to save you money, just buy what is best for YOU?! ;-)

Return the Nikon
AF 50mm f/1.8 and get the Nikon
AF-S 50mm f/1.8. :-)

I'm generally in the same camp, though a couple of the studios I shoot in are too small for some shots with the 85mm (which is anything but blaaahhhh! ).
