Go back to Michael's. They sell mat cutters there. Mine is all the way in the basement now but I know it's a Logan. It was approx. $100 and comes with a base and adjustable arm and an unattached head. Easy to use.
Don't buy mat board there. Too expensive.
I have an App for my iPhone that helps calculate openings. It's called, strangely enough, Matte Cutter.
The Logan is a good make, I have used them for years.
I use the Logan 460. After I ordered it from the internet, I found it at Hobby Lobby and with the 20% discount you can print out from the internet (on one item only), it would have been cheaper than from the internet.
I vote for the Logan. Watch their videos on You Tube to see how they work, very easy, affordable and and easy to store under a bed or in a closet!
Go Logan. From experience, get the most expensive one you can afford. Will help keep you from needing to "upgrade" as you find you want to do more and more different things. I didn't know that so I have 3 in the upgrade mode. The Logan 450-1 Artist Elite should handle most anything you want to do. The Logan produced videos are excellent.
I have a Logan 301-S and it works great.
The only problem is that mine will not accept a full standard mat board so I have to cut the board down to an appropriate width with knife or scissors. Buy a longer one if you have the budget and room to store it when not in use.
Logan 450-1 Artist Elite handles a full sheet plus a bunch of other stuff. Google it to see what it can do for you
I have the 301 also and it works great. Do watch the videos, very helpful. You can get 40% or 50% off at Michaels and Hob Lob. Look online and be patient. And have fun!
I had used Logans for many years, but they were unwieldy with some of the hand held features and inaccurate. But a good starter kit. Eventually as I exhibited for money I needed the professional quality and got a C&H Advantage Pro, and have used it for 15 years with excellent results. But the C&H was expensive, if you are not sure how you will use it a Logan is good for a $100 or so. I inherited a bunch of money and bought a C&H, I wouldn't not even compare a Logan to it! You wouldn't want to spend a lot of money and then find you don't use it that much.
