Attended the Augusta cutting Horse Futurity this past week end and thought it would give me opportunity to get good action shots of the horses at work. The lighting in the arena was not the best and my position would not allow me to get down on the fence. Our Gov. was attending and sitting in the box seats in front of us and the security people would not let me get to the fence. My 2 lens consist of 24-105 f4.0L and 50 f1.2L.The 24/105 would not let me freeze the action. the 50mm would let me shoot at 1/500 if i pushed the iso up to 2000. Please look a the photos and let me know know what I should have done differently. My point is I really need to convince the wife that I really need a 300mm f2.8. these were shot at 50mm- f2.0 -1/500 sec -ISO2000
In addition to the lens, you may need a camera that can shot at a higher ISO. Poor lighting and action are tuff to capture, sometimes. Good Luck!!!....... Pat

It's a struggle, especially when you can't use flash! :(
You know you could have made the pics look worse thus convincing your loved one that you HAVE TO have that new lens. And at the cost you better show her some good looking cowboys............
