Photographed at the West End of Jones Beach State Park on a cold January with late afternoon light. This trail leads to the Jones Inlet.

Which photograph do you prefer, color or monochrome? Or neither.

Additional critique, suggestions or comments welcomed. Thanks 8-)

The monochrome hit me like a ton of bricks...Almost somewhat infrared looking, and awesome. Both good, but #2 does it for me!

No. 2 is certainly more dramatic; but you love that lovely golden light. I'm sorry, but I really don't have a preference. Drama goes to two. One is, however, very lovely light and color. Lotta help I am.

I'm in agreement with Bob. The color image is stronger.

I have a personal bias, probably shared by very few, about toning. I'm not a fan of toning, and maybe it's just my own experience, that if a b&w of mine isn't strong enough to stand on its own, toning it never seems to make it better. The monochrome image of yours IS strong, and I think the toning detracts from it.

Both photos are dramatic. It would be like choosing which of my two children that I love the most. Great images.

I think both are striking images. The color makes me think of a beautiful spring day, where the B&W looks like an ominous stormy day.

Thanks ScooterSurfs for the input. I though the monochrome looked a bit infrared too. 8-)

What a glorious stand of orange-yellow Phragmites at the tag-end of Autumn...might see snow tonight! wonderfully evocative of the L.I. shore.

But the B&W grabs me and screams to be hung on my wall! It speaks to the incredible perseverance of that diabolically ... and successfully self-serving and, some would claim, malignantly persistant and resolutely spreading organism. There is an awesomely malevolent character to that monochome scene that grabs and holds the attention ...your toning, and your treatment of that sky support the mood described. I'll bet that's the image that took over your mind after a brief appreciation of autumnal (winter?) beauty had passed...am I right?

Print 'em both, and both will sell, but the monochrome will outsell the color, hands down!

I'll bet your agent and your galleries will bear me out.

The details of the stalks are emphasized better in 2.

Both beautiful, but I think one is more alive!
