A lot of this belief was based on Donald Rumsfeld's claim that no inspection was completed. Fact Check.org gave this statement 4 Pinochios
The UN completed the inspection but left in a rush not because they were kicked out but because war was imminent and ground troops from US were arriving.

The report was filed and no WMDs were found.

The Univ. of Maryland did an investigation into why this claim is still believed when even Bush's own appointed inspector called the WMD claims "Mostly Wrong." The study found that most believers of the myth were FOX watchers. FOX kept promoting the myth and showing old videos of when Saddam Hussien was using chemical weapons on the Kurds.

Couple this with the finding by PunditFact, (a division of Pulitzer Prize winning Politifact) found FOX with a whopping 60% fact checks were "mostly wrong." FOX also had the biggest number of "Pants on Fire" ratings.

With solid evidence that FOX was spawned by staffers of Nixon Administration along with paid consultant Roger Ailes who became founding president of FOX, do you really think its fair and balanced?

MSNBC had 46% "Mostly False" and less than half of FOX's "Pants on Fires" Yet on no show does MSNBC claim to be "News" on every show FOX emblazones "News" on the screen. Gawker (a web based news blog) used the "Freedom of Information Act" to dig out info from the Nixon Presidential Library. In that discovery was lots of information about establishing a Republican voice on broadcast news. This information was between Nixon staffers with paid consultant Roger Ailes' copious handwritten notes in the margins. He offered his services in getting it going. Roger Ailes became the founding President of FOX. What's the matter? Didn't your Fair and Balanced News network tell you this story?
