This is capitalism my friend, not Obama. US coal is too expensive, so those who need coal go buy it where it is cheaper. US mines can't compete, so they shed workers. If you want to go back to the 30s and slap tariffs on everything, then all the other countries will slap tariffs on US exports. This is no longer a unipolar or even bipolar world and the US is no longer the undisputed king of the hill. I do hope a Republican is elected in 2016 so people will wake up to this geopolitical reality.
