A question I've asked myself many times...

Another wrinkle:

According to the article, Wikipedia claims, "For example, under US copyright law, copyright claims cannot vest in to non-human authors (that is, non-human authors can't own copyrights)"

An advanced search of www.copyright.gov shows no instance for the phrase, "non-human author" so where does Wikipedia get its information?

I think there's another important aspect to this case - Slater was not in possession of the camera at the time the pictures were taken. The camera was stolen by the monkey, and in physical possession of the monkey.

Let's say I steal a camera, and proceed to take photos with this camera. Does the camera's lawful owner have copyright over these images, or do I?

Possibly from case law?
