These guys are all over where I live. You can't take a walk in the woods without brushing them out of your hair.
I was looking for a live subject to take inside and take some rail shots and this one was the first one I came across. Needless to say, things didn't work out very well. I chased the poor little guy all over the place. I'd put him on a pencil and back to the stage he would go. And off the stage he would scamper.
It was next to impossible to make any lighting adjustments since I had to keep my eye on the devil.
Finally in frustration I just held the stage in my hand and moved it to apply focus, getting nervous every time he moved towards my hand (I know they are harmless).
Finally I let him go back outside with resolve to build a smaller A-PeeR claw for field work and to do my live shooting outside.
A white, female Spinybacked Orbweaver (Gasteracantha cancriformis)! Well done.
Nice capture Piet. Good details on this shot.

Hi Amy, Thank you for your kindness. With photoshop I should have raised the exposure before I posted this... The mistake I made was when I changed the DOF on the spider by closing down the aperature more, I failed to increase the power of the flash resulting in the underexposed picture. I was too flustered keeping an eye on the spider making sure it didn't crawl away.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you like him. I learned a lot doing this (the big one is that I'm going to try to do these outside from now on).
i like it.............
I rescind my ID of spider. I do not recognize it.
