Take a photo of the sky that you want; or go find one. Open it and use it as the background.

Select the sky in your pic with the majic wand. Invert it under "Select" to get the bird selected. Copy it. Place your cursor on the sky background and click "paste".

Here's a quickie example. You may not like my sky.

Nice, that would work. Also like the fact that I could "stamp" it and change the shapes of some so you do not end up with the same thing all the time.

But PSE10 has a filter called clouds under render. When I click it , it makes a real mess! How do you use it, or is it not worth the time?

Reminds me of me - the video man does yammer on. Could have cut that down to about one third the time for the information given.

I am just learning Elements as well. Hadn't noticed the "render" filter. There is so much stuff.

I have some pics with a gray sky I've been trying to fix up. Unfortunately they have trees so the selection dosen't work as nicely as it did with your bird and uniform sky.

I noticed my sky has a twig in the lower right. Easy enough to clone that out if you want.

I'll play with "render" and let you know if I find anything out.

Yes, you can just pics of different skys to use when you wish.

Thanks for the link. His problem is like the one I have with trees. His solution for the trees (reduce opacity) isn't so hot, though: they ended up kind of blue. I suppose with a little more careful work using that method one could minimize it.

It appears he worked with an older version of PSE. Adding the mask is more straightforward with 10. But otherwise the method is the same and he even showed how to get some sky pics off of Google.

What he did on the stack was just go back and reveal the original stack...i.e. painted his mask back to black in the area of the stack. That would be a very detailed maneuver on the tree twigs. You could do it but it would take a lot of time to get something nice. Selection and coloring might work better but that gets fussy too...it is what I tried first.

In my case it is easeir to just re-take the pic on a day with a nicer sky. This is the one I have fussed with.

Did a little playing with to photos. Still not quite happy but better. Got to work with this video more.

Some things I do not understand but I am thick headed and will figure it out.

These have very whimsey clouds added that I took this morning. At least the sky is not a flat blue as it was

Here is your pic with the filter/render clouds feature.

I don't think it is too bad.

I first changed the foreground and background colors to blue and white. You do this on the little thing with the square boxes at the bottom of the tools list.

I then selected the sky with the magic wand as before but in this case did not invert the selection: just applied the filter with the sky still selected.

Finally I added an adjustment layer, with the sky still selected, and adjusted the contrast and brightness to get something I liked. You can instead adjust the blue in step one if you prefer.

Working with the samme photo I came up with this. I tried using the cloud filter again but do not like it, just looks too artificial to me.
