Went out on a long (~5mile) hike today, Cotton Carrier worked like a champ. Insects started to pickup but still not what I'd expect. Perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong places, not sure. I found a nice path near the bayou that links up with a utility swath. One way in, one way out and not obvious from the well traveled trail. Quite nice, overgrown but enough rabbit trails to make your way around. Very tranquil, perfect place to allow the mind to wonder. I got to thinking about the ebb and flow of insect populations. It seems to be cyclical. Last year I could hardly find a lady bug this year they're everywhere. Last year there was an abundance of Swamp Milkweed and Haldemen beetles. This year nada. Not sure if it was the longer winter cooler spring conditions we had or it's just normal feast and famine response of nature correcting populations. I need to research this more.
Enough babbling, todays shots, from the secret utility corridor. I think I'll be hitting it up often.
Nice collection, the pollen collectors earning their keep
nice job, like the seeming self-satisfied look on hoppers, nice midge with the hair against the blackness
..
I like that wasp, nice detail - seeing the dew on it's wings.

Thanks Infestation, indeed they do earn their keep. I like photographing these little bees very interesting to observe and I find them aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks Piet, I didn't notice the dew when I was shooting it but it is a nice touch in the final image.
