Okay, I had to get rid of a really hideous background and I don't think I did it particularly well. Actually, it isn't getting rid of it that is my problem, it is replacing it. But I liked the picture enough to put the time in -- a LOT of time -- and if it isn't perfect, it sure isn't for want of trying!

It is a really wonderful photo. Nice job replacing the background but you are right...it is too flat and solid of a color making it look artificial. Hope you kept the editing file so you can just go back to change that background. Otherwise, since the background is now a solid color it will remove pretty easily by using the magic wand. Sinatraman is spot on. Cloudy sky would look great. I keep a file of various things I have found including sky and water shots for just this situation. I suggest you go out over the next few days and take lots of cloud and sky photos. Look for different types of clouds and different times of day. Experiment with them as your background. Hopefully you will find one you really like. I would love to see your result.

It is a really wonderful photo. Nice job replacin... (show quote)

Thank you. It IS a great picture, but I am NOT a great editor. I have NO idea how to pick up a sky from one photo and plop it down into another, though apparently everyone else can do it in two clicks of a mouse. Mind you the sky is the actual color of the sky that day (got it by eye droppering a little piece of sky) and it was pretty much cloudless in any case ... but no sky is THAT cloudless. Frustrating.

I like the photo as is. The sky is the sky. Clouds would be nice but if there aren't any then what to do. I know this is not what you are looking for but the background is quite different.

That's WAY better. HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

I used the Quick Selection Tool in PS Element 8 and then layered it onto the background photo.

I like the original background because it does not take away from the Native mother and child
