Off camera lighting

I am a new, newbee and would like to get into off camera lighting. I have a Fujifilm HS 20 EXR and found that an off camera flash will cost over $100. I am looking for help to create off camera lighting using a Halogen or Florescent work stand light. I plan to use an umbrella to diffuse the light. Also what type of watt for the bulb.

No need for the lighting info. I finally found a continuous lighting kit that includes 2 - 7ft stands w/bulbs and umbrellas and also 2 - small stands w/bulbs and a case for storage!!!! All for under $100

Where did you find it? I am looking for an umbrella with a stand and money is tight.

I bought 10 of these at $10. each to use as fill in flash, it worh of your camera fkash, place them where you need it. Your going to have to look around on ebay to find them.
