Any way of getting rid of the fence?

This is a photo I took at the (Erie) Zoo soon after I got my camera. Pretty sure this was shot in one of the Auto modes. At the time, I didn't quite get aperture and all of the other whistles when shooting in Manual. I'd really like to try and get rid of the fence in the shot. I tried content aware.. doesn't seem to be working. As I'm typing, I thought of maybe using the clone stamp. Would that help?
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Now it will be painstaking however you do it.

Next time use a long lens set to minimum f-stop (to get narrow depth of field) and be sure to get the focus on the critter. You may have to focus manually to do it. That will almost make the fence disappear.

when you shot it you could have focused so the fence was not visible
