With the mirrorless cameras are they top heavy and difficult to use with anything a lets say 50mm lens? I noticed on eBay a seller is selling his for this very reason. It the cameras are to be light doesn't placing a lens that is over 6cm
defeat the purpose of having a small, lighter camera?

Long telephotos on small ML bodies do get awkward, but most cameras have specifically matched lenses to minimize the problem. The new problem then becomes the price of many of those lenses.
Thank you! This may very well stop me from purchasing one.
My hands get a bit quivery when holding a camera for any length of time. This seller had the 12-40 and felt uncomfortable with it. This is reason for selling the camera.

What mirrorless camera are you looking at?
I have one and like it a lot.

The only 12-40mm I know off the top of my head is the Olympus M4/3's F2.8, a very nice lens. It would be a little bit large on the Pen bodies, but not so much so on the OM-D series of bodies.
If it was an Olympus camera, they have stabilization in their bodies... Helps with user movement (not subject movement though)
I am looking at a Olympus OMD 1 or I may get the pen E-P5.
I like the rangefinder look. Terrible reason for buying a camera.
I bought a refurb E-P3... Hated that it had no viewfinder. Spent 2/3rds the price of the camera on a VF-4 EFV & while better, it still sits as my main focus (no pun intended) is macro & these cameras won't replace my DSLR's for that purpose...

Everyone has preferences.
I use several cameras and a variety of lenses including a D800E mounted with a 300mm f/2.8 and 14E TC. Talk about top heavy if you try to hold the camera.
When lenses go beyond a certain size you hold the lens not the camera much like on a tripod with lens collar.
Its just a matter of common sense.
I use a Olympus EM 1 and the 12-40mm f/2.8. What a dream combination.
Edit: Perhaps this is the smart phone mentality.
That is the lens and he states it makes him feel uncomfortable. I don't want to fall over at my age. This seems to defeat the purpose of the small camera if the lens prevents one from holding it stable. It would seem one would have to use macro and pancake lens to enjoy the camera. Of course this is where the tripod comes into the picture.
I would feel I was over reacting if he wasn't selling it for this reason.

The lens only weighs 13 1/2 ounces, I doubt that would make anyone feel like they were falling over. Its a very nice lens, and gives a 35mm FOV equivalent of 24-80mm F2.8, a very common and in-demand lens range.
The em-1 with the 12-40 is NOT top heavy. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Especially Ebay.
This is exactly the camera and lens I am speaking about.
You call it a dream combination. You don't find your hands and arms shaking? You must be a youngster.
