I found a small scope at a yard sale $15.00 and of course want to attach my camera on it. Any suggestions? Canon Rebel XTI, scope is 60mm X 700mm focal length. I calculate it should be about f11.7 I would appreciate any recommendations or advice about my new toy.

I want a telescope for my Canon Rebel XT ... I never thought of yard sales ... duhhh ... thanks for mentioning it.

Thrift shops (believe or not) and pawn shops have a lot of that stuff too. Probly get the whole camera and a few lenses there. :-) Haven't been in a long time but vaguely remember camera equip there.

Look at WalMart too. They typically have reasonable ones for less than $49. I had a door-to-door surplus products sales guy come to me one time and I bought a Vivitar telescope from him, brand new in a sealed box, for $25. I thought that was a very good deal since I usually trust the Vivitar name.

I once saw an article on the Internet about a guy who created an size-reduction adapter out of a cardboard tube duct-taped onto the camera and a smaller one taped to the scope but I certainly wouldn't hang a dSLR on there. He was using a lightweight P&S with a small diameter lens. The results for birdwatching a mile away were awesome.

Google is a wonderful thing when it comes to researching these things!

I have a very small P&S that I could adapt. Thanks for the idea. If it works I will post

that scope is about as good as a $3.00 bill. Up untal this last year I was posing the Telescope Buyers FAQ and I still have it in a tex file, and as it poined out, just about any cheap sope was about as good an a broken one. I myself am paying for a 12inch DOB that is costing me $3,000.00 and by summer I should have it, THAT is a telescope. In the past up until this last summer, I was able to review maney scopes.
