I recently purchased a Yonguno speedlite YN565EX and would like to use rechargeable batteries but don't know if the flash or the Canon 50d will tolerate the lower voltage. Anybody in Hedge hog land know? I can't find any thing in the manual.

I don't have the exact same model , but rechargeables is all I use in mine ... no problems... Just use a good quality brand of battery...good luck...

I have the 565ex and have used both the 1.2v NiMH and the 1.6v NiZn rechargeables with no problems. I don't mix them, always 4 of the same type. I don't know if mixing would affect performance.
Rechargeable batteries should work just fine as long as you're aware that the lower voltage means fewer shots between battery changes. Check out Sanyo's eneloop Ni-MH batteries. They hold their charge longer & can be recharged more. Batteries Plus carries them.

I have the Yonguno speedlite YN565EX II and I use Energizer rechargable batteries, 2300mAh, 1.2v. My camera is a CanonEOS 60D and I have no problems at all.
