Even though I grew up just south of Boston (I now live in South Carolina), I've never been to Maine's Acadia National Park, Bar Harbour and Nova Scotia.
We have a chance to visit in August. We plan on flying into Logan (to visit family), then renting a car and driving up the Maine coast. We have about a 7 to 10 days to see Boston, Maine and Nova Scotia combined.
I'm interested in where to go in Nova Scotia for the most "photogenic" areas. We'll be taking a ferry from Bar Harbour and have about 3 days in NS. I love historic and quaint villages, seascapes, country vistas and old cemeteries. The ferry will dock in Yarmouth, but it looks like a long ride to Halifax, so we may stay on the Bay of Fundy side of NS.
Any suggestions?
Make sure you add Peggy's Cove to the agenda.....it is near St.Johns , Nova Scotia......It is a little fishing village with a lighthouse.....and has plenty of photo ops.

Photophly, I saw your photos of Peggy's Cove!! They are amazing and exactly what I hope to capture. I see Halifax is only a 3-4 hour drive from Yarmouth, so we will definately check out Peggy's Cove!!!!!

You won't be disappointed.......pictures everywhere.
Better do your homework. There is no ferry from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia anymore. It stopped a couple of years ago. You'll have to drive.
There is plenty to see on Mt Dessert Island to keep you busy for quite a few days. i try to get up there annually. It's a lot quieter (fewer tourists) before 4th of July and after Labor Day.
Just Google Bar Harbor and you'll find loads of stuff.
Have a good trip.
My wife and i visited N.S. a few years age and we loved it. The norther part is more rugged (cliffs and vistas) while the southern part (Peggy;s Cove) was loaded with villages, coves and lighthouses. It really doesn't matter where you hang out..the only way you won't find decent subject matter is if you leave your camera at home!

In August, 2010, we took a cruise to those exact areas. The best was Peggy's Cove. The sky was unbelievably blue.
On my SmugMug page I have 60 photos taken on that cruise.

Bar Harbor and St. Johns were almost as good but Peggy's Cove was the best. Try to get there on sunny days.
See what bus tours are available for Bar Harbor, Boston, and St. John's, but DRIVE to Peggy's Cove so you're not limited to the tour's time limits.

Find out where the Puffins nest. I shot some on Seal Island. You will have a blast. They have blinds that you have to use - for both you and the birds advantage.
