Shooting into shadows seldom produces satisfying results. As you can surely see in this shot.
I do like photo #1 much better. Right now, I'm at a loss for wordes to describe it, but, to me, #1 is the better of the two.

Then I would ask you - what exactly caught your eye? Light? Shadow? Mood? Trees? Juxtaposition of trees? What?
This is a question one could ask themselves for ever image they work on. So answer that question for yourself and then you will have ideas about what it is you really like and you can then go about framing composing and shooting.
