I notice a few Marines posting here on the entire board, not just in the section. I served in the Corps from 1964-1968, 3rd FMF until they changed in country designation to 1st FMF. The regiments and battalions didn't change much until they activated the 5th Division regiments.
How many grunts on board?

I was glad there were more Marines than Airmen with me at Khe Sanh in'68. But the fact that there were more Marines at Khe Sanh says something about intelligence. (Please don't draw any conclusions from my presence there.)

northern I corps was our area of operations, i was up there in dong ha from the beginning of operations with operation hastings. if you think for a single moment General Krulak wanted to have Marines at Khe Sanh...the 3rd MarDiv fought to keep them out of there, but Westie was sure they would hold and have a reverse din bien phu. Westie was a moron who was totally outfoxed by the NVA
but the air force dudes at dong ha lived in massive fear when 2nd Battalion 9th Marines stormed their fence and gate for an air force pilot dropping a 500 pound bomb on them,,,not a very bright thing to do to the Walking Dead.

I spent abit of time in Zaku Iraq, and Solipi Turkey during Gulf War 1. Had a contingency of French Foreign Legionnaires with us. Wasn't a large fan of the French all in all, but DAMN that group of Legionnaires, truely frightful professional soilders, did become my favorite base residents. Took them with me a couple of times on off-base missions. I felt safe, warm and fuzzy. Wouldn't want to discuss world literature with them, and their table manners sucked, but I did like having them about!
Friendly Fire sucks, sorry to hear you were there. Understand Khe Sahn sucked. Welcome Home.

Don't take offense. It's just a Ford/Chevy or Harley/Honda sort of thing.

Thanks for your service. I laugh at AF jokes as quickly as jabs at the other branches. Sorry if anyone takes offense. I respect all who serve, especially those who have served within the cold, angry grasp of war.
