I was told that MAC is way better than PC in matters of media (pictures and video). Since the transition will be a little expensive, I am requesting your opinion before making any move.
Thank you in advance

I changed to a MAC from a PC a little over a year ago after using PCs for years. In both cases, I had owned machines with extra memory and faster processors, not necessarily top of the line but close to it.

There was a learning curve but I'm very glad that that I bought a MAC. I upgraded to LION from Snow Leopard after owning the machine. Nothing could have been easier.

I use Lightroom 3, Photoshop Elements 9 and NIK Viveza software with external storage for photo files as well as the hard drive. No problems.

On the whole I find the MAC procedures more direct and therefore faster on the MAC.

You'll get every opinion under the sun. As far as I'm concerned, Macs are more expensive out of the box, but not more expensive over time. No "protection money" for security software that sucks up resources on your system and usually, but not always, works. When things go wrong, as they so often do, I find the chances of recovery on a Mac much greater than with Windows. And my consulting work is providing support to both Mac and PC users.

Windows systems seem to slow down over time, sometimes in 6 months to a year. I know of geeks who will back up their data and once or twice a year, they'll completely reinstall Windows and all their applications, just because of that. Only takes them about a full day. Macs are far less prone to this.

So, if you want my opinion, go buy the Mac. You won't be sorry.

Are you thinking about a desk top PC vs iMac or are you looking at a laptop vs Mac Book Pro ???

I have looked at iMacs at Best Buy and did not like the VERY glossy screen. Also ShutterBug magazine just had some comments about this.............

Owned and built PCs for years. If I was more serious about getting the most out of a machine for photos and graphics, I'd go out and buy a MAC with fastest processor and lots of memory.

I have a MacBook Pro 17 inch screen and it goes all over the world with me on photo shoots, I love it. I do have PC's as well but now all my photo's are on the Mac. I use Photoshop CS5 and Aperture with Topaz filters, Vivasa act. I am so happy with my Mac I am not going back to PC's.

You haven't checked out the fastest processors, have you? :)

The iMac is well-suited to photography. If you were doing video editing or sound editing all day long, the Mac Pro would be the beast of choice. Extra memory is always a good thing for photo editing. As for GC's comment about the iMac's screen, it can be a bit of a problem depending on the available lighting, but I personally haven't found it to be that much of a problem. And you can connect a second monitor, do your image editing on one monitor and everything else on the iMac's screen.

I used to buy the low-end version of the Mac's high-end systems. Now, I'd get an iMac, which is a mid-range machine. The Mac Pro (not the MacBook Pro, which is a laptop) is a big jump in price, and way more machine than I'd need.

Not true, just different systems. One is costly and the other is cheap(er). Lots of disagreement and agreement and likely strong arguments.

One is not better and the other is just different.

How fast do you want to go? How fast do you really need? Is it better to be able to open Photoshop in 9 seconds compared to a slower machine that takes 13 seconds? Quite often, people will argue about a few seconds difference and how it means one system is better than another system.

You can build some very fast Windows systems, with very fast video cards and SSDs. You can purchase a very fast Mac system and beat it up with a much faster Windows system.

For me, my computer is fast enough. All I need to really worry about is how fast it takes to boot and run Word. I turn on the computer, go downstairs for some coffee or breakfast and when I return, I am ready to go. Speed is not important to most people except when they start asking about faster systems, then their system is "crap" because it is too slow.

Mac Vs PC? It is a never ending battle. Decide what your budget is then what you want to do with the system and make a choice. Whatever system you buy tomorrow morning will be worth less in a month as something twice as fast and half the cost arrives.

I have seen PS run well on both platforms. With a Mac, at least you get plenty of smugness and self-satisfaction. With Windows, you are supporting an evil empire.

Wow... are you trying to start a Mac vs. PC war on this forum? ha ha... Good question though.

I'll be honest, I don't like Apple products but not because I think Mac's are inferior, but rather because I don't like Apple's "closed system" concept. Having said this, there are some advantages to having a closed system architecture including hardware/software compatibility. A PC is great for the person who likes to customize, but I think you'll get a more trouble-free experience with a Mac.

Regarding the PC being more prone to viruses, consider the target size. Hackers love to make the biggest impact with their malicious code. What better platform than Windows to do this? I don't think the Apple OS is any less virus prone than Windows, there are just fewer hackers trying to infiltrate it.

So here I am... a PC user recommending you go with a Mac! As far as price goes, I agree with RMM: "Macs are more expensive out of the box, but not more expensive over time."

Good luck.

My wife got me started on Mac's. She is a graphic designer and macs are mostly used in that field. It is so much easier than a pc. A friend of mine is a computer guru, and even though he works on huge systems and pc's, he prefers his mac. He say that is the way a computer is supposed to work.

Well I am not sure if I am replying properly. I am new in this forum but I want to thank to all of you for your kindness providing opinions for my quest. I do pictures (wedding, quinceaneras etc..) and starting with videos. When working on videos, I am not sure where to trim because the voice is one place and image is another. there is no sync between both of them. Is it a pc deffect or just program deffect?
