I may have missed the conversation... But I am seriously considering doing the monthly adobe package of LR and PS. $9.99 seems like a no brainer, but is the execution problematic or nice and smooth. I am experienced with PSE and I know there will be a learning curve with both LR and PS. PSE 11 is on my computer .. Working in the cloud for post processing is new. Comments?

you can buy LR 5 for $150. I would never trust any kind of cloud service with anything that's of any value to me.

You don't work in the cloud. You sign up, pay, download and install like any other software. Your files stay wherever on your computer you want them. It's a good deal, works well, but some people have moral/philosophical objections to the subscription model. I don't really care, I have access to some things by purchase ( my car, my computer, my refrigerator) and some by subscription ( health insurance, newspaper, Creative Cloud software). It works fine for me.

Adobes software is good, but their tech support is dreadful. Fortunately, I seldom need it. Forever the optimist, I always hope it will improve before I run into problems I can't solve via a good google search or asking here.

There will be a learning curve but it shouldn't be too hard to get started with LR. I recommend you do not try to do it without getting your hands on a good book (I don't mean the bible) or at least going through a number of the video tutorials that are available for free. There is lots of good advice in the Post Processing section of this forum.
Focus on the import and organize piece of LR before you start processing anything. This is conducive to your continued sanity.
BTW
The programs reside on your computer and the post processing is done on your computer.....not on some machine "in the cloud"

That's better.. On the computer.. The idea of having light room on my iPad is attractive too.. Any HOGer on here use iPad and the included Lightroom app. I know this is all new . Thanks for the amazing quick response and advice. But having photoshop... As well.. And always the newest version.. I know I am convincing my self. I would assume the upgrades are seamless and continuous.

I've played a little with the mobile app. I can't say I'm super impressed but....I haven't worked real hard at it either.
I could be wrong but my impression at this point is that you really have to get the images into a collection in LR on your computer before you can work with them on the mobile app. I will frankly admit that I may be completely wrong.

Psergel, agree completely except I would start with J. Kost at http://www.jkost.com/ before getting to far along with Lightroom. Actually, I would review the installation videos before even loading LR. As you said learning importing and organizing (setting up) early on is good for continued sanity. ;)

My upgrades have all been easy thus far. I don't upgrade the day they come out though, I wait a few weeks until they've had time to fix the first crop of bugs. Having new versions so frequently appears to mean more bugs slip through the cracks, so I delay a bit. It is part of my ongoing effort to avoid having to deal with Adobe tech support which is about as helpful as seeking advice from my cat. So far, all is well.

I agree with what has been said on the positive side of this deal if you do not own Lightroom or Photoshop. Although I don't like the subscription model either I will cave in when my current versions of Lightroom and Photoshop CS6 are no longer supported.

If you have worked with Elements you will not have a problem with Lightroom nor much of an issue with Photoshop. I recommend Scott Kelby's books on both.

You can import your Elements catalog into Lightroom to get going.

I strongly agree - importing - organizing - & backing up are super critical in LR5

Fortunately I haven't had to try them. They'd have to be spectacularly bad to rival Century Link. I'm sure the people of the Philippines are wonderful. But they aren't trained or enabled to do anything beyond put you on hold and transfer you to someone else till the line is dropped.

Thank you for the link.. I just looked at the listing, extensive is not the word I would use, daunting, near infinite, yes, the videos she has listed can not be measured in hours but rather in days or weeks. But I will dig in.

You don't understand CC. Your software and images default to your computer. The cloud service is used to deploy updates and upgrades. Images remain on your computer, though you can save a backup of your files to their cloud. I don't. But I use dropbox (another cloud service) to deliver images to my clients.

I subscribed to the $10 deal several months ago - installation was smooth, and I have received a number of updates and a new version - CC2014 - a couple of weeks ago. With every new update, I am reassured that it was the right decision. Photoshop now is considerably better than CS6 at this point, and it is only getting better.

You are permitted to install on two computers. I put them on my desktop and laptop.

Right On I have been using the cloud since its inception and have not had a problem
