I have the Canon 60D with the Canon 18-200 is lens. Thinking about getting the Tamron 18-270 lens..any opinions on comparison of these 2 lenses. Hope I can get some good advice from this wonderful site.

I doubt there would be a big difference, but I have not seen ratings of the Tampon lens.

Seriously, they are basically the same lens.

The Tampon lens should be a lot smaller in diameter.

What a difference one letter can make...thanks for the laugh!

P.S.... I don't have it, but the Tamron lens gets good reviews.

Here is how DXOMark rates them. There isn't much difference except the Canon is more consistent throughout the zoom range.

There is no point in having both lenses. The zoom ranges overlap to and the 200-300mm range is likely to be optically the worst part of the Tamron lens.

Better off to keep the Canon and select a lens that will compliment it.

If your interest is telephoto look at the Canon 400mm f/5.6. A very good lens and not too expensive considering the focal length.

Keep the Canon. It's a tad faster wide open on the long end, but its color rendition will probably be a tad better too. The Canon 70-300 is significantly better, if you're looking for an intermediate zoom upgrade. Better yet, the 70-200 f4L or the 70-200 f2.8L II are superb, but will cost you much more. If you ever opt for a full-frame, however, you'll be ready with some outstanding glass.

How often do you need to go beyond 200mm?? Look at you pictures and see what mm you're shooting at. Why not get a 70-300mm ect??

that would be a waste . sure it's a bit faster . and 70mm more tel. but if you go that route , I would sell the better canon . so I wouldent have keep using
two len's . out of sight out of mind .

I have the 18-200 on my 7D. No reason to add the Tamron
