Is anyone using a NAS (network attached storage) to display their photos to people outside their home or business?

If so which one?
What is the capacity of the NAS?

I'll be interested to see what others say. I've been looking at it, but don't not sure if it's just the geek in me that thinks I need it or if I really do need it.

:)

ha ha, I'm a total geek. I admit it freely. I can quote star wars with the big boys, know lord of the rings backwards and forwards... that's happens when you spend 5 years working in the video game field. The mecca of geekdom.

It did make me very popular with all my kids' friends, lol.

I use a synology NAS. It has a 5 disk raid array 2 Tera bytes each. It comes out to 7 terabytes of storage.
NAS stands for network attached storage. Basically a great way to backup your computer or give excess storage capacity. I use my NAS to backup my MAC pro. A thumb drive would be a better solution for sharing photos to say carry them around on a key chain. Unless your referring to a different acronym I don't know why or how you would use Network attached to share data?

Oops! Ok I get it.
Better solution would probably be an FTP server. I pay 8$ per month at host gator. PalePictures . It has a word press default screen up now. But I'm working on FTP connectivity now. You give out a password and someone logs in and downloads your pictures. You can also display your pictures on your site. Mines coming soon!

One other note.
I could open up my ports on my router and share pictures on my synology. iSP's typically frown on this. Plus it exposes your NAS to attack. I would still recommend a web hosting service. Aka host gator

I have in the past run a network server running apache on a Linux machine to create a FTP site. Cost about $300. Unless your very technical I would not recommend this approach. The NAS solution will prove to be equally challenging.

Why did you choose gator?

If you don't wish to continue this here, PM me. I probably have a few billion other questions.

I use a Buffalo Cloudstor. Plugs into my router and can be accessed from anywhere. Capacity is 4TB (2-2TD drives) or 2TB Mirrored.
