Canon Rebel help

Hi! I am a very amateur photographer. I have a Canon Rebel Xsi and when I am taking pictures the camera says the flash is busy. Would getting a external flash help this? I miss a lot of good shots because of the camera doing this. Please help with any advice!!

Your flash will be busy if your batteries are getting low, recharging the flash takes a little bit of time and fresh batteries are the best way to make that happen fast.

I have an external flash and love it. I do not have any 'busy' signal any more and can fire off several shots. It's great when I'm hiding in the patio to take pictures of the jays that come in for peanuts. The flash makes them jump but stay long enough for me to get a couple of shots.

Are you shooting with the green box ( auto). If you take it off that you can shoot faster on P or in Manual if you know how to set and shoot in manual. The P works great , you just have to have your ISO on the correct setting.

I usually keep my ISO on Auto when using flash. But here's a little trick when your batteries appear to be dead on external flash. Just use a little spit on both ends of the batteries, and SHAZAM, they the flash works. I have thown away a lot batteries needlessly when a little spit would have made them work.

I have an XTi and when the batteries are low it'll say flash busy - and I never use the flash.

I have come to realize that some folks here are located in other countries and don't speak English very well. This person was probably suggesting that the OP might need good batteries, but it came out as "batter." We can all practice a little more patience and forgiveness.

Thank you all for the help. I finally got an external flash for Christmas. Though, now I have to learn to use that as well. My mother-in-law took me photoshooting this weekend and taught me a lot on manual shooting :) That def seems to help with the busy signal!!
