Nikon D40x

Nikon introduced the 10.2MP D40x just six months after introducing the 6.1MP D40. I didn't even know the 40x existed until I read about it online.

Why is the D40 the dominant model, after being in production for only six months?

I'm guessing here, but it might have been to compete with the Canon Rebel XTi.

Right. And the theory is that either Nikon didn't have the x ready in time, or they still had lots of 6.1 sensors to use up. I tend to go with the first theory.

The D40 has less noise at 6mp vs the 10mp of the D40X

So the "improved"model was less desirable. Interesting.
