I'm Douglas, retired and a new photographer with a Canon SX20 IS. It works for me I always maintain my 'I wish I had' camera, but I don't. I'm looking forward to receiving critique of my photos. I don't feel qualified to critique other photos, I can give my opinion.

A critique in an opinion - please do not hesitate to give your subjective, personal, bias thoughts - I don't. I believe your first picture has very good focus - I would suggest maybe to mist it with a water spray just prior to the shot and maybe hang around to see if a visitor shows up. To me the second one has a lttle too much subject and contrast - the light spot at least to some may be destracting; other will love it. Thanks for sharing.

Love you Web photo, I have tried so many times to get a "good" one like yours, but am still out there trying. I have a Canon SX30IS so maybe I can get one like you in time.
Do like the idea that notnoBuddha offered, mist spray.

Is it is the best idea I have ever heard. Okay -again that is my smart mouth and did not really require further comment. Actually it is not really my idea and what I read it being used in connection with was photographing flowers. In general though many items including most of nature and even street scenes will have more vivid colors right after a shower. Good Luck.
